First generation...lasting marriage?

Soo, it's no secret that P and I both come from divorced families.  We both know the incredible work that goes into a good marriage, and we are ready to make that commitment.  However, I just realized the other night that I am the only one in my family who is not divorced.  My parents have both divorced multiple times, and my brother is actually in the middle of a divorce right now.
This definitely makes wedding planning a bit difficult at times, and can be a bit discouraging.  I know that I have learned from my family members' mistakes, and I will not repeat them.  It's just difficult to realize that I don't have an example of a good marriage in my family, when I really could use one.

Anyone else out there struggling with this?

  2. While the mister and I are from divorced families, I think we've always look toward other relationships for good models. Family friends, even our own friends who've been married for a few years.
While it can be discouraging that there are so few examples in our immediate family, and just what the statistics are (divorce, children of divorce), remember- you and your FH are not your family.

  3. Hi I just found your blog and it looks like we have a lot in common in wedding planning woes and decision making. Both my fiance and I come from divorced parents and that has definitely made wedding planning quite complicated and stressful for me. Not so much because of the pressure to not repeat the past marriages that ended in divorce. But more because of the issues of the different roles that family members would normally play in a wedding and trying to make sure no one steps on any ones toes or releases any pent up anger at each other...
Good luck to you in your planning!
